Regulation of the GhBPE-GhPRGL module maintains a fixed ray petal length in gerbera. GhPRGL promotes the elongation of ray petals especially in S1–S3, while GhBPE inhibits the elongation of ray petals especially in S3–S6 by transcriptional inhibition of GhPRGL. Thus under the coordinated regulation of JA and GA, GhBPE regulates GhPRGL to prevent ray petal elongation indefinitely. Solid and dashed lines represent direct and indirect regulation, respectively; the arrows and horizontal lines respectively indicate promotion and inhibition effects
